Central Thailand

Central Thailand (Central Plain) is a region of Thailand, covering the broad alluvial plain of the Chao Phraya River. It is separated from North-East Thailand (Isan) by the Phetchabun mountain range, and another mountain range separates it from Myanmar to the west. In the north it gently changes into the more hilly Northern Thailand. The area was the heartland of the Ayutthaya kingdom, and is still the dominant area of Thailand. Central Thailand contains the Thai capital of Bangkok. Central Thailand is the most populated region in the country. Central Region is located in a fertile basin having most rice farming and regarded as a rice bowl of the country. Central Region is a land of civilization originating from the pre-historic era and had been developing continuously till Ayutthaya and Ratanakosin periods. Besides being the country's most fertile land on rice growing, the central region is also famous for its tourist attraction places which are lied prominently n natural resources and the historic ancient remains. The prior mentioned is thick forests, high falls, caves and sea beaches, while the later is ancient ruin temples or palaces, his torical places etc. In additio central region is also the center of national communications thus causing it a center of tourism which is to be decentralizd to other regions too.

The area around the nation's capital, Bangkok, has an abundance of attractions for the visitor to Thailand, although the traffic in the city itself can be somewhat trying.

Ayuthaya located some 86Km north of Bangkok offers an insight into Thailand of the past with many fine temples and two museums.

Thailand's Central Region consists of 22 provinces: Ang Thong, Bangkok, Chachoengsao, Chai Nat, Kanchanaburi, Lop Buri, Nakhon Nayok, Nakhon Pathom, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Phetchaburi, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya (Ayutthaya), Prachin Buri, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Ratchaburi, Sa Kaeo, Samut Prakan, Samut Sakhon, Samut Songkhram, Saraburi, Sing Buri and Suphan Buri. It is the country's most fertile land rich in rice farms and fruit orchards. The region also abounds in tourist attractions which lie prominently on both natural resources and historical ancient remains.
