Home description

Orba is a really pretty Spanish village offering a great range of local facilities, and is an ideal base from which to explore the area. The village facilities include various shops - butchers, bakers, greengrocer, off-licence, newsagent, a pharmacy, plus medical and dental surgeries. Orba also has a weekly market on Wednesdays. Orba has three banks, and three supermarkets of varying sizes. It also has "Julie's" - an English supermarket that sells just about anything a British visitor might require. There are about a dozen restaurants of various types and styles, bars with pavement tables, local interest shops, together with a working pottery which sells direct to the public.

At present there are 13 golf courses on the Costa Blanca and several are within easy reach of Orba. All are affiliated to the Spanish Federation and consequently can validate member's handicaps internationally. Most have clubs for hire to visitors and provide coaching. Each one offers something different for the golfing enthusiast in terms of facilities and relative difficulty.

A 20 minute drive through the Orba valley's beautiful orange groves will bring you to the closest. Hiking - there are many opportunities within the area for exploring on foot, ranging from lazy walks through to strenuous and demanding mountain trails.

The caves at Benidoleig (about 5 minutes) are well worth a visit.

Watersports, including boating, windsurfing, snorkelling, scuba, and various boat trips are available off the coast of Denia 20 mins by car.

Orba

Orba is a really pretty Spanish village (or small town) in the north of the Costa Blanca offering a great range of local facilities, and is an ideal base from which to explore the area. Orba is located 18km (11m) inland from the Mediterranean coastal town of Denia. It has an altitude of about 160m above sea level and is home to about 1600 people. Picturesque mountains form a backdrop and there are wide, uninterrupted, magnificent views from most villa properties - including from Tuymi.

Orba is situated at the head of a large fertile valley that grows mainly citrus fruit of a quality that is the best in the world. The Orba Valley is a haven of tranquillity, where citrus trees nestle alongside almond plantations, giving a beautiful scent to complement the stunning scenery of rolling hills down to the sea.

Orba is relatively unaffected by tourism and retains its Spanish identity. Orba village and the surrounding whitewashed villages have retained their traditional Spanish feel, with weekly markets and plenty of bars restaurants, shops and other amenities to choose from. Yet despite this, or perhaps because of it, a significant number of English, Dutch, German and Swiss have made Orba their home town and many have integrated well with the friendly local Spaniards.

The church which is situated in the central plaza was built on the site of an old mosque. Whilst it is not much to look externally, the inside is a delight. The tower also houses the town clock. The bells strike on the quarters and on the hour, which is repeated after a short interval, apparently either to confuse the devil or to give you a second chance to count the strikes!
