There are infinite beaches where you can take the sun on the hot sand or have a bath during the whole year

There is an impressive ecological site strechted between the land and the sea and measures have been taken to preserve the natural balance of this unspoilt landscape.

Thus, the lagoon of Somone, with 7000 ha wide, has been classified as a nature reserve and a bird sanctuary for now 2 years. And a program to play down the shrinking of the forest has been carried out. Actually, mangroves were planted.

You can enjoy observing many species of birds the whole year long, as follows : grey pelicans, then white pelicans in July (nearly 1200), seven species of herons, pink flamingos
and so on.

The Central Senegal / Petite-Cote region The point of departure for a lot of excursions to discover Senegal : nature reserve of Bandia, Gorée island, Joal-Fadiout, Sine Saloum islands, the "Lac rose" an astonishing pink lake, Casamance, Djoudj and Niokolo-Koba nationals natural parks, and more.

Among the most typical : Gorée is best known as the location of the House of Slaves and famous as a former center of the Atlantic slave trade from where many Black slaves were deported to the Americas. It is now a popular tourist destination referenced by UNESCO. (80 km from Somone)

Joal-Fadiout is a village at the southern end of the Petite Côte of Senegal. Joal lies on the mainland, while Fadiout, linked by a bridge, lies on an island of clam shells, which are also used in local architecture and crafts. The village has no motorised transport. It has large Christian and Muslim populations with cemeteries on another shell island. Another attraction is granaries on stilts in the water. (50 km from Somone)

It is possible to rent a car and also to organize visits with a driver (Dakar, Goree island, the Pink Lake, Saloum islands, the Somone lagoon,...)
