Central/East Poland

Polands weather is wonderfuly varied. Christmas and New Year are nearly always snowbound. The snowfalls, blue skies, dry air and hard frosts freeze the Vistula into a sheet of ice. April brings a dramatic, if unpredictable rise in temperature. There could be a heat-wave or blustery winds. Late Spring is usually warm and sunny (18-25 centigrade). Warsaw Summers are hot and sunny. The golden Autumn is wonderful as the maple trees turn burnished gold in the autumn sunshine.

Warsaw

There are innumerable ways to spend days in Warsaw – visiting the magnificent castles, palaces, churches, parks, museums, operas and theatres or wandering around the 18th century University area. There is the picturesque shopping the length of the Royal Way – the route to Europe’s only unaltered neo-classical park, the Lazienki, with its exquisite Palace on the Water. A stroll here, pausing for coffee and patisserie is a joy.
There are more recent historical landmarks – the Warsaw Ghetto Monument and the recently opened museum of the Warsaw Uprising. There's the Marie Curie Museum, art treasures at the National Museum, Modern Art at the Ujazdowski Castle, exhibitions at Poland’s foremost Zacheta Gallery, the Chopin Museum and the Botanical Gardens by the Old Observatory.
The wooded banks of the Vistula, one of the two natural city-centre riverbanks left in Europe are fabulous for walks or bicycling and just a few minutes walk from the apartment.
Within easy reach of the city are stunning country palaces and flower decked manor houses. Chopin’s birthplace at Zelazowa Wola and dozens of horse riding centres echoing Poland’s great cavalry tradition.
At the vast expanse of nearby Zalew Zegrzynski there’s every water sport – and for the brave, parachuting at Chrcynno.
