The climate on the West Coast of Mauritius is the driest and sunniest of the Island, even in the winter the daytime temperature is a balmy 23 degrees. In this part of the island there is a wealth of top grade hotels, a testimony to the natural beauty of the area. A beach lover’s paradise a perfect place to come and unwind and relax, the unhurried lifestyle and friendly people with their diverse mix of cultures. An excellent base from which to explore the island, the local bus service provides very good transport links to the rest of the Island. This will enable you to explore further a field. Another way of exploring the island is to hire a taxi with driver who will personalise a tour to your requirements. Both these options are 150 metres from the villa. Car hire is also available locally.
Places of interest and easily accessible on the West coast are:
Casela Bird Park, contains 140 species of birds plus tigers, tortoises, monkeys, deer and orchids. In Port Louis you will find the Central market which sells all the ingredients required for any dish a Mauritian is likely to cook as well as local arts and crafts. Visit a working sugar cane factory and find out how the cane is processed and buy a bottle of locally produced Mauritian rum!
The capital,Port Louis is 45 minutes away by taxi and provides a wide variety of shops and restuarants with excellent transpot facilities to travel to other sightseeings places of interest.
Flic en Flac is a 12 kilometre stretch of fine white sandy beach, backed by Filao trees, these provide some much needed natural shade. The beach is suitable for a wide range of activities. Diving, fishing, deep-sea fishing, horse riding, wind surfing, paragliding, cycling. After you have watched the magnificent sunsets from the beach then the question of where to eat will arise. The local restaurants serve a variety of different tastes, Chinese, Creole, European, which forms the evening entertainment. Domaine Anna is a Chinese restaurant 10 minutes drive from Flic en Flac that is renowned for its food and entertainment. A Sega night is a must for any visitor; this will introduce you to the courtship dance of the original slaves to Mauritius. The shopping centre of Flic en Flac has everything the holidaymaker requires, a well-stocked supermarket, pharmacy, bank and even a casino! Tour operators and Dive centres are in this area for those who wish to join organised excursions such as a trip on a Catamaran to Ile Aux Cerfs, or evening cocktails and BBQ cruise.
