Shela Beach is 14km of unspoilt beach, backed by sand dunes. Swimming at all times of the year, safe for children, and lovely sunsets. The Magical town of Lamu is 40 minutes walk away or 15minutes by dhow. Wander around the narrow, sandy lanes of Shela Village, it is safe at any time. The local people are very friendly. Dhow sailing around the islands, winsurfing, deep sea fishing, snorkelling (October to March), day trips by dhow to ancient ruined settlements on nearby islands, Lamu's museums and historic mosques are just a few activities available.
The Lamu Archipelago, located on Kenya’s Northern Coastline has become a popular and unique holiday destination. Whether you are looking for a Beach Holiday with a difference, while enjoying the relaxed rhythm of the islanders, or whether you are interested in exploring the Swahili Culture in Kenya’s oldest and best preserved living town, rich in history and culture and unchanged for generations. Mnarani House captures the beauty and charm of Swahili architecture. From here, you can explore the Historical Old Stone Town, where still the only forms of transport are by dhow or donkey or enjoy the marvelous unspoilt beaches in the area. Lamu offers some of the most beautiful sandy beaches in Kenya, still far away from mass tourism.
Lamu is located North of Mombasa and Malindi on the Kenyan Coast. The town has been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and takes one back several hundred years, as the town has remained unchanged for centuries. There is still no motorised traffic or cars, transport is by donkey or dhow.
