The property is a beautifully restored old Arab Traders House sited overlooking the waterfront right in the heart of Lamu Town a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Mansion is owned by an Architect and a writer and has been carefully furnished with antiques and artifacts.
There are 4 seperate spacious double rooms all with ensuites and sitting areas or related terraces. The Masterbedroom is unbelieveable with seperate dressing area with large private terrace complete with starbath/plunge pool. All rooms overlook the garden area, and each suite has its individual character. All ensuites have dual head showers and state of the art sanitaryware. All rooms have 4 posterbeds, Nets/drapes and overhead paddle fans.
The house is on 4 levels with terraces on each level - the main upper terrace offers a magnificent entertaining area with panoramic sea view, and a vantage point to watch the activities of the town.
There is a covered terrace within the shaded courtyard garden a great place to breakfast on Mango and fresh juices under the Starfruit and Guava trees.
The House has all the typical Lamu architectural features including ornate plasterwork, timber decorative screens, carved entrance doors, painted timberwork beams and polished plaster finishes.
On an ecological front the house uses solar energy for water heating and there is an electrical backup system.
It is fully staffed and a chef is normally available throughout your stay to cook for you locally obtained seafood and produce. Afterall it is you who is on holiday.
Samaki House offers a unique cultural experience offering the perfect place to relax and enjoy Island life. It is suitable for both families and romantic breaks
The town has a rich architectural and cultural heritage. You can wonder through the narrow lanes or along the waterfront. You can go with or without a guide - theres lots of local colour and things to see in a safe environment, people are friendly and helpful and you are always greeted with a Smile. Theres Henna painting, massage, hair braiding, local tailors, weavers and woodwork shops to visit. Theres spices to try and bakeries to dip into. Restaurants with a great selection of seafood - colourful local markets and a bustling waterfront to watch activities of the day.
Lamu has its own Cultural festival which attracts European artists and performers who work alongside local and African based talent.
