Pescia

Preserved by its marvellous ring of walls, built for the first time by the Roman, and then enlarged in the middle- age and during the Renaissance, Lucca is undoubtedly one of Tuscany’s most beautiful town.

It lies in a plan surrounded by sweet green hills covered in olive trees and vineyards; its characteristic centre is something to explore on foot or by bike thanks to its flat narrow lanes!

2000 years of history will catch your eyes walking around Lucca’s squares and streets. It is home to splendid Romanesque churches, museums, monuments, and birth place of Giacomo Puccini (1858) one of Italy most famous composer.

The marvellous square, now known as Piazza dell’anfiteatro (amphitheatre), maintains the old II century shape and offers a spectacular architecture of houses built in the 19th century by the local architect Lorenzo Nottolini.
Underneath its antique veil Lucca is a lively, dynamic town, sprinkled with cafès , restaurants and shopping areas set amongst its majestic palaces

During the summer Lucca welcomes some of the most famous singers of the world for the “Summer Festival”’s concerts, held in the major squares of the town.

While in the brand new open air theatre on the Massaciuccoli lake, in Torre del Lago Puccini, 20 km from Lucca city centre, right in front of the villa where Puccini wrote some of its best pieces, the Puccini festival takes place. From june till august, the composer’s most popular operas are performed in a spectacular scenario ..
For the entire month of September, the town celebrates the “Volto Santo”, the holy face, a marvellous cross kept in the cathedral “Saint Martin”, Is this a very special time to come and visit, as Lucca shows its best side!
