Restructuring made recently has kept intact the charm of the old style, increasing in the same time the resistance and stability in order to comply with safety standards, to breathe the air and atmosphere of the eighteenth century in peace. The ancient structure is completely stone while the interior has tiled floors and ceilings with classic scantlings and mezzane.
The countryside of Lucca is reflected in the colours used for the interior and furnishings combined with an almost entirely made up of antique furniture restored to keep all the original charm of a time when nature was the centre of the life every day.
The Casa di Laino is well exposed to the sun and surrounded by olive trees.
The allocation of a court and an outdoor garden offers an opportunity to communion with the landscape in times of family life as lunch or in moments of relax for those unwilling to give up a good book or tan in the sun of Tuscany.
Because of its strategic location, the Casa di Laino is an ideal base to visit places of historical and artistic interest (Florence, Siena), or to discover the beautiful city of Lucca. Guests can also quickly reach the famous beaches of Versilia or Torre del Lago (where each year takes place the famous "Festival Pucciniano"), or may visit the natural beauty of the mountains of Garfagnana.
The house is located in Torre in the province of Lucca in Tuscany and is available for your holiday rent.
The Province of Lucca is divided into 34 municipalities; only 6 of them are in the plain. One of the largest in Italy is the municipality of Capannori with its 40 hamlets. The other centres are Altopascio, Montecarlo, Porcari and the small commune of Villa Basilica. The Piana di Lucca is of course flat, but it is surrounded by beautiful hills set against the background of the Pizzorne highlands on one side and the Monti Pisani on the other.
The origin of most villages is Medieval, but recent archaeological excavations have shown that settlements existed in this area since the Bronze Age. After, the territory remained uninhabited for a long time; however, from the beginning of the Vth century B.C., the Etruscans appeared in the region of Fossa nera near Porcari followed, much later, by the Romans.
With the arrival of the Lombards and the creation of new roads, among them the Via Francigena, the population begun to increase. Because of the frequent passage of armies and mercenary troops the villages were fortified; the unhealthy conditions in the plain, especially close to the marshes around the lake of Bientina, prompted the inhabitants to move to the hills.
The Piana di Lucca with its suggestive landscape and well rooted folklore has, therefore, a very rich history.
