Dear guest, when you choose to stay at our traditional Sardinian house here in the historic center of Orosei, you will experience a different kind of lifestyle. The house, built in 1600, was constructed and restored using relatively few materials: earth, stone, lime, pipes, juniper-wood beams, and hand-made tiles. This was the kind of house that our farmers lived in during centuries past! The house was restored in 2004 under my artistic direction and today it is equipped with all of the comforts necessary for a pleasant vacation. And less than 100 meters from the house you will find: a market, a bar, restaurants, a pharmacy, a deli, laundry, fruit and vegetable shops, the central piazza, many historic churches, and an extraordinary museum planned by the architects Vittorio Gregotti and Loddi & Co. You will be staying in the heart of the east coast of Sardegna, away from the main tourist areas, amongst the local residents. Staying among us, it will be easy to discover our traditions, foods and holidays, as well as our extraordinary natural sights. We will be happy to share these places with you, to introduce you to the tastes of the fruit of our earth, and to help you plan itineraries for archaeological excursions and explorations of the inland areas and the sea. The important holidays to discover in Orosei are: Sant'Antonio in January, the Barbaricino Carnival in February (with masks that are one-of-a-kind in the world, including the famous mask of Mammuthones), Easter (and its many rites of Spanish influence), the festival of "Santa Maria del Mare" (which takes place on the beautiful beaches of Orosei), "San Giacomo Maggiore" in July, the country fairs in August, and "Su Remediu" in September. A quick Internet search will confirm both the beauty and anthropological significance of these festivals. These are some of our natural sites of the greatest renown, located inland, perfect for hiking: the Gola (Throat) di Gorropu, the Tiscali archeological area, and Tiscali e "Sa Petra istampata" on Tuttavista (See-everything) Mountain of Orosei-Galtellì. Sites you can reach on foot: Cala Luna (Moon Cove) and Cala Goloritze. Archaeological sites: Thomes (the Giant's Cave - tomb of the giants of the Nuragic Age – 10th to 2nd century b.c.), Serra Orrios (a Nuragic village), the Nuraghe (ancient stone houses characterized by their cut-off cone shape), and the Park of Osala. The Orosei Marina can easily be reached by foot. By car or bicycle, you can easily get to: The Park of Biderossa and several beaches of our famous fine, white sand - Cala Liberotto, Cala Ginepro, "Su Barone," and "Su Petrosu." Finally, the beaches Cala Sisine, Cala Luna, Cala Goloritze and Cala Mariolu can be reached by sea excursions (with boats that leave Orosei at 9.30 a.m. and return at 6.30 p.m. or by chartered boat). We would be happy to send other photographs or information on the house or the island.
