Montefegatesi

Montefegatesi, fraction of the municipality of Bagni di Lucca, is a small medieval country that draws its origins in ancient age, probably from a takeover of Liguria-apuano people. It is named in historical documents already from the 983 and from the 1245 this castle was granted from Federico II to the lucchesi in exchange for their fidelity. Except a short period during which Montefegatesi fell in control of Florence, it then remained always under protection of Lucca, representing given its strategic position, a lookout advanced of the lucchese republic towards the modenese border.
The country in fact is found in a privileged position, it rises to 850mt slm on a full of rock spur, that dominates the valley of Fegana torrent, at the center of an immense natural valley formed by the Appennino Tosco-emiliano and the Apuane Alps.
Near Montefegatesi you can find the natural Reserve of Orrido di Botri, site of special naturalistic interest. The Orrido di Botri is an imposing calcareous throat, characterized from steep walls dug in depth, high until 200 meters. It is presented therefore like a true and actual stalactite canyon, a tight and packed valley , created thanks to the erosive action of the waters of the torrent Rio Pelago that it is wedged between high rocky walls, forming a natural environment of rare suggestion.
From Montefegatesi also depart numerous paths for other trips and walks that retrace the ancient roads of shepherds, woodcutters and pilgrims, across secular forests of chestnuts, beeches and oaks, precipices, pastures and springs of pure water.
Montefegatesi represents an ideal destination for those who seek an uncontaminated natural environment , a country in which to taste the rural life of the Tuscan country, distant from the distant from the frenetic rhythms of every day life.
In the outskirts a lot of destinations of interest are found, among which the thermal station of Bagni di Lucca, (about 20 minutes by car), the ski station of Abetone and the Versilian coast (about 50 minutes). Finally from here are easily attainable the greater cities of Tuscany, like Lucca, Pisa, Florence, Siena.
In the country there are: a grocery shop , a bar and a bar restaurant, a butchery opened some days a week, a post office. A bus service connects the country with Bagni di Lucca, where you find the tourist information office, the thermal establishments, pools, numerous shops, banks, restaurants, etc.

Lucca - Garfagnana

Garfagnana, with its mountains and its woods, is a fruitful valley, rich in history and traditions, that, crossed by the Serchio river and its tributaries, divides the Apuane Alps from Appennino Tosco-Emiliano. The influence of two such different surrounding areas has promoted the development of an original landascape, very special not only for geography but also for culture.
