Casa Pirina is a typical Eolian villa, recently restored. It is made of two separate parts overlooking a private court. The main part hosts two bedrooms (one with a double bed and one with two single beds), two bathrooms with shower and a sitting room. The single bed bedroom has an intermediate floor hosting two additional single beds; the sofa in the sitting room can also turn into a bed. The other part hosts the kitchen and the laundry. There is also a wc separated from the two parts of the house and an external shower. Furnitures are new and very elegant. In front of the house, three large terraces offer a magnificent view of the Eolian archipelagos. The villa has its own private garden, with flowers, grass, olive trees and fruit trees.
Filicudi is one of the most exclusive Aeolian Islands, located on the West side of the archipelagos, between Alicudi and Salina.
Its original name was Phoenicusa, because of the large amount of ferns spreading all over the island up to its highest top, Monte Fossa Felci (774 m). Filicudi had been inhabitated from 3000 b.C. since pottery evidences had been found in several places around the island.
Filicudi offers relax, excellent food and very interesting attractions like the prehistorical village in the area of Capo Graziano, dating to the Bronze Age (2000 BC). In the eastern side of the port, rests of Roman houses and tombs in the rocks were found. The island still preserves the typical Aeolian architecture and the terraced fields. The coasts of Filicudi are made up of brown and red rock and are full of great cliffs such as "Faraglione La Canna" and "Scoglio della Fortuna". In Filicudi there are a lot of wonderful grottoes: the most amazing one is "Grotta del Bue Marino" (Seal). It is also ideal for trekking in a wonderful scenario.
The economic life of the island is based on cultivation of capers and figs, fish and tourism. Off season it has around 300 inhabitants living in the three major villages: Filicudi Porto, the landing place of ferry-boats and hydrofoils, Pecorini a mare and, higher up, Valdichiesa which later became the centre of local life. The island has other smaller villages and a road network.
Filicudi cousine makes a great use of herbs such as oregano, rosemary, garlic and basil. The most important element is fish, of course. You can taste "pulpiteddi'nto tia'nu"(stewed polyp), dried salted cod, stockfish, and a spicy fish soup (made of grouper, scorpion fish, polyps, squids, mussels, prawns, clams, tomato, garlic, white wine and red pepper). Restaurants are good and you can enjoy all traditional dishes of the very rich Sicilian cuisine, ranging from pasta to rich sweet dishes as ice creams, granite and pastries. For those who appreciate excellent wines, Sycilian wines from restaurants and well supplied wine shops will make an unforgettable experience
