Castellammare Del Golfo

At few kilometres from Trapani you can visit Castellammare; sea village known for its ancient Castel, that once, was complted by a drawbridge. The heart of the village is its ancient Harbour whose view can be realized from many panoramical high local points. En agoust it used to celebrating an historical and religious event aruond the castel; this event attracts many turists year after year.
Non too far from Castellammare (10 minutes by car) you can visit Scopello a wonderful enclave where majestic crags dominate the landscape. The traditional tunny fishing activity and the Norman tower complete an astonishing setting.

Trapani

The city of Trapani, ancient Drepanon, just out towards the sea with the sickle shape, that legend says belonged to the harvest goddess Cerere who abandoned it there while in search of her kidnapped daughter, Proserpina. The tower of Ligny arises majestically at the top of this scythe shape. It is a watchtower built in 1971 which today houses are the Prehistoric Museum. The sea, the best reference point for getting to know Trapani, is still the source of life today in terms of fishing, particularly tuna fishing which is still carried out using the traditional "tunny-massacre" method. The Tonnara enables visitors to see the different stages of this ancient fish processing technique and also the chance to taste the delicacies that derive from this esteemed fish. One of the most important museum of Trapani is "Museo Pepoli", which is hosting the Caravaggio exhibition and is located in the old Carmelite Convent next to the Santuario dell'Annunziata. where one can admire the marble statue of the Madonna di Trapani that dates back to to the 14°century. There are also many churches bearing witness to the Sicilan Gothic-religious architecture of the 14°century.
