Bagni di Lucca

The earliest mention of which dates back to the ninth century when the thermal springs of the hill of Corsena were already renowned for their therapeutic virtues. Bagni di Lucca witnessed its first illustrious visitors during the Middle Ages with Matilde di Canossa and Federico II. During the Belle Epoque and the early twentieth century a large part of the European aristocracy gathered at the Terme di Bagni di Lucca with guests including famous writers and poets like Giusti, Monti, Carducci, Pascoli, Montaigne, Dumas, Heine, Shelley and Byron, and musicians like Puccini and Mascagni, who called it “The Switzerland of Tuscany”.
It's close vicinity to the most important art cities in Tuscany, and its natural environment all offer the chance to enjoy a holiday filled with wellbeing, culture and sport. Still standing from Lucca’s glorious past are the ancient medieval walls and the magnificent historic centre, whose central piazza has for years been the site of a famous antiques market.
