The House Of Gelsi is situated at the heart of the splendid Gulf of Castellammare with breathtaking view on it and a few meters far from the sea. Alcamo

Alcamo (C.A.P. 91011) is 126 km. from Agrigento, 196 km. from Caltanissetta, 303 km. from Catania, 215 km. from Enna, 313 km. from Messina, 54 km. from Palermo, 262 km. from Ragusa, 343 km. from Siracusa, 53 km. from Trapani province belongs.

The municipality has 43,367 inhabitants, has an area of 13,077 hectares and a population density of 332 inhabitants per square kilometer. It rises in a hilly area and is 256 meters above the sea level.

Alcamo has the name of Arab origin, Manzil Alqamah, (Alqamah-name of a watermelon velenosissimo, Manzil-station-house) founded in the twelfth century along the street that leads from Palermo to the coast. Between century XV and XVII development of the city is due up of many religious groups that are pushing the expansion beyond the city walls.

The town became the Counts of Modica until early XIX; thanks to the many remains of mansions is still visible the feudal character. In 1860 Baron of St Joseph Triolo, at its own expense, organized teams of Picciotti who helped the "Mille": it was Alcamo that Garibaldi appointed the Sicilian Francesco Crispi "Secretary of State for Sicily."

In monuments is of great prominence Castle of the Counts of Modica, built in sec. XIV, a diamond plant, with two towers and two cylindrical quadrilateral; up to now can be found in the northern part of the mullioned windows in the Gothic style.
Inside the imposing Cathedral Church is rich in important works of art, such as family Gagini and Serpotta and as the frescoes by G. Borremans. Remains of a building thermal century. XIV, the "fontanazza" posssono found on nearby Mount Bonifato.
