Terryglass

Terryglass is one of Ireland's gems, a beautiful village nested on the unspoilt shores of Lough Derg where the Shannon rests the mountains of Tipperary.

Famous for repeatedly winning the Tidy Towns award and winner of national tourism awards, Terryglass has a striking marina for water enthusiasts which is only a short stroll away from the village itself.

At the centre of the village are two pubs which from the hub of the village, providing splendid cuisine and entertainment. This area is well renowned for its coarse fishing. Lake boats are available to hire for anglers or for just relaxing and letting the Shannon roll by.

Well worth a visit is the Old Court Castle and nearby Portumna Castle and forest park. Terryglass is the ideal place for touring Ireland with counties Galway, Limerick, Offaly and Clare all close at hand.

Terryglass is a place in Ireland. It is situated in County Tipperary in North Tipperary. It is on the shore of Lough Derg on the River Shannon

The monastery was founded by St Columba in 549 A.D. It became a center of learning and produced, about 1160, the Book of Leinster now in Trinity College Dublin, an important collection of history, tales and poems in Middle Irish. The Vikings frequently raided the abbey, and in 1264 the abbey was burnt. A remaining wall from this abbey can be seen at the back of Paddy’s pub in the village.

Terryglass has two historic wells, the Eye Well and the Headache Well which are said to have curative properties.

A national Tidy Towns award winner with a quay having all amenities.The church is rare among rural churches and graveyards. Its headstones are of uniform height and in regular rows. It includes a lovely set of stations and plaques.
