The prestigious Jacob's Island development is set on 16.47 hectares of waterfront along the Douglas Estuary. The construction is broken down into 8 phases, of which Phase 1, 2 and 4 are ready for completion. Now fully occupied consists of 300 lm of adopted road built to the highest NRA specification. A total of 33 houses ranging from 2 bed terraced to 5 bed executive houses. Phase 1 also included the redevelopment of 18 acres of parklands and 1.5km of sea water defence upgrade amounting to a tremendous park facility. The whole area has benefited from this major civil engineering operation. The area around Mill Street has now been developed into one of the trendiest places to live and go out, but during Victorian times this historic area was London's most notorious slum. Surrounded by swampy marshland extending from the Thames, Jacobs Island is featured in the Charles Dickens novel Oliver Twist. The area is though to have inspired a great many of the darker artworks of Victorian times.
