Lovina, or rather Lovina Beach, is the collective name for a number of villages situated along a ca. 12 km. long strip of beaches at the north coast of Bali, directly west of the former colonial capital of Bali, the market town Singaraja.

The coastal villages of Anturan, Tukad Mungga, Kalibukbuk, Kaliasem and Temukus are along an 8 kilometer stretch of tranquil black sand beach.

For those without diving licenses, one may get liscensed in a matter of a few days of courses in Lovina. The diving enthusiast will probably want to move on to Menjangan Island, Bali's most famous diving site. It is an hour's drive from Lovina where one would then take a 30-minute boat ride onto the island. As part of Bali Barat National Park, Menjangan Island is well known for it's clearest water in the Indonesian archipelago, where you can go diving or snorkeling amongst the coral reefs and fish in the sparkling clear water. The founder of Lovina - Anak Agung Pandji Tisna, the last person to hold the title of Raja of Singaraja and also a famous novellist, .is known as the founder of the Lovina tourist beach resort because he was the first person who built an accommodation named Lovina (an acronym for 'Love Indonesia') in the area in August 1953. He had introduced Lovina as a tourist beach resort in North Bali worldwide by writing a number of articles in international publications for years until he died in Lovina on June 2nd, 1978 at the age of 70.
