Fulophaza

Fülöpháza is situated at 18kms west of the county seat Kecskemét. The flat landscape typical of the Great Hungarian Plain is broken by the sand dunes in the western part of the village. This area of sand dunes is part of the Kiskunság National Park.
Fülöpháza was already inhabited during the great migration. The Cuman tribe, which founded the village, appeared in Hungary in 1123, while fleeing from the Mongols. After the Mongol invasion, King Béla IV settled one of the Cuman tribes he had called back to Hungary in this region, and granted them privileges due to nobles. The pagan Cumans were converted to Christianity by Bishop Philip (Fülöp). In commemoration of him, the region started to be called Fülöpszállás (szállás meaning dwelling), replacing the former name of Buzogányszállás.
Fülöpháza had been one of the pusztas (area with scattered farmsteads) of Fülöpszállás, the fields of which would enclose vast territory. The village became independent on 1 January 1948. The local authority had the coat-of-arms designed in remembrance of the 50th anniversary of this event.
