Balatonföldvár

The name of Földvár can be red in XI. century documents first, and mentioned later in 1358. In the XVIII-XIX century was signed as Földvárpuszta in maps, from 1896 has the name of Balatonföldvár as an entertainment settlement. Földvár-puszta was founded by the Széchenyi family. It was developed to water entertainment by Széchenyi Imre. Beside of the Széchenyi family Schilhán József was who had done much for Földvár's developing as a lordship gardener, who made shadow grove on the bare country by several years working. The Széchenyi family has a powerful supplier in the development, Spur István engenier who made the plans for the railway traffic at the coast. In the middle of the high coast developed settlement in beautiful environment was built the first hotel, Hotel of the leader Kupa. In the next years two more hotel were built. The water settlement was officially opened in 06.14.1896. In this time more than 40 beautifully built villa's stood on the coast of the Balaton. The settlement had a reputable restaurant, café at the water, beach, post office, pharmacy and general practitioner. The settlement also had a little market and some shops. And on the hill a chapel was built. In tis time Balatonföldvár was not a standalone settlement, it belonged to Kőröshegy. In 1903 Földvár Ltd. was founded by the Széchenyi family's assistance. The Földvár Ltd. had the pick of the land of Földvár. This firm had built the 1200 m long coast walk, what is named as Kwassay walk. In 1904 the dock was built. The settlement had more developings as public electricity, canaling. In 1905 Földvár received the title of medical bath from the minister of health. The settlement became a restplace of the Hungarian distinction. In the age of between th two world war in the XX. century Földvár had much things in develeping. In 1948 Földvár became a standalone settlement, independent from Köröshegy. In 1977 Fölvár became the leader in the council of the 5 near settlements. Received the title of village in 1985, became town in 1992. The town received the of 'Europe prize' for its flowering and tidy in 1994. In 1995 received the first place prize in the competition of the ”Flowered Hungary”. In summertime we offer festivalsm concerts, exhibitions for our guests. We had several opportunities in having rest by the nearest villages.
