Kyraiki stone built studios offer the visitor comfort in peaceful surrounding, close to the village center, 3 min walk.
Pretty Volissos crowned with a Genoese castle, 40 kms northwest of Chios Town, falls under the status 'Traditional Village', is an excellent base to explore the north of this fascinating island, where one can discover wonderful scenery and attractive villages but few tourists. Legend has it the 9th century BC poet Homer lived here and taught the children of the Govenor of the village.
3km away in a secluded bay, stands the Monastry of Agia Markella the patron saint of this Island, who's feast is celebrated on the 22nd July bringing pilgrims from all over Greece who decend on the area for a large festival of celebration.
The village itself is sleepy, traditional with a handful of eating places, two small general stores, a Pharmacy, Doctor, donkey saddle maker, bakery (with wood burning oven) and a cafe or two. At night the harbour (1.5km away) comes to life, with three bars, two taverna's and a kebab house, it's a fun place of music and dancing. 500m along the coast is Limnos beach which has two further taverna's, one of which is situated on the beach. Here you will also find a patisserie/ice cream parlor.
