Home description

Mitte is THE neighbourhood for art, culture, museums, restaurants and night-life. Over a hundred galleries (ranging from established masters to cutting-edge world renowned artists) and designer boutiques within a three block radius. Museum island and the Brandenburg Gate are a ten minute walk (one subway stop). The Reichstag, Alexanderplatz and Fredrichstrasse are also one S-Bahn stop away. Oranienburgerstrasse with restaurants covering all world cuisines play alongside a dozen quality local eateries (we have full recommendations and reviews available). Bakeries, butchers, organic grocery supermarkets (and smaller streetmarkets) are also within what we refer to as the 'golden triangle' - the most desirable, beautiful collection of streets in Mitte - Berlin's premier neighbourhood. Ten minutes drive/taxi to the Hauptbahnhof (main rail station), 40 minutes from Tegel (Berlin\'s international airport) and a mere half an hour from Schonfeld (Berlin\'s main EU-destinations airport).

Location

Berlin-Mitte or Mitte is the first and most central borough of Berlin (Mitte is German for centre). Mitte encompasses Berlin's historic core. The area includes some of the most important tourist sites of Berlin (like the Museum Island, Brandenburg Gate, Unter den Linden and the Reichstag among others), most of which were in East Berlin.

In 2001, Berlin's boroughs were reorganized. The former borough of Mitte, located entirely within former East Berlin, was combined with the boroughs of Wedding and Tiergarten (both of which belonged to West Berlin) to form the new Mitte borough.
