ST-ANTONIN-NOBLE-VAL - named by the Romans as 'Nobilis Vallis’- sits on the bank of the Aveyron beneath the majestic limestone cliffs of the Roc d'Anglars. Site of many of the epic struggles of the region and home to many interesting historical sites.
There's a café most conveniently and picturesquely placed at the end of the ancient halle, with a view of the town's finest building, the Maison des Consuls, whose origins go back to 1120. It now houses the town museum, Musée du Vieux St-Antonin (July & Aug 10am–1pm & 3–6pm; Sept–June apply to the tourist office; €2.50), with collections of objects to do with the former life of the place, as well as a section on local prehistoric sites.
Situated in the heart of south-west France, Midi-Pyrénées stretches from the wooded hills of the Dordogne to the river valleys of the Pyrénées. It is one of the largest regions in the country, with ancient towns, villages, castles, Romanesque churches and a very deep history. If you’re in search of small medieval villages, rolling hills and wonderful landscapes in the mountains, this is the perfect place for you!
Lovers of nature will be impressed by the region’s unique valleys, incredible forests, rivers and lakes.
More than that, Midi Pyrenees is a very rich area, culturally and historically: typical 19th century castles and museums, as well as enchanting palaces and amazing cathedrals, so many special places you're sure to remember.
