Sometimes referred to as “France’s Sunbelt”, Languedoc-Roussillon stretches from the mountains of Massif Central in the north to those of the Pyrénées in the south, and is bracketed to the east and west by the regions of Provence and Midi-Pyrénées, respectively. The territory curves around 150-mile of spectacular Mediterranean coastline, which offers some of the finest beaches in France. The first part of the region’s name, Languedoc, refers to the tongue spoken in southern France in the 13th century. It literally means “language of oc”, taken from the native speakers’ word for “yes”, which was “oc” instead of “oui”. The second part, Roussillon, comes from Ruscino, the old name of the former regional capital, near Perpignan.
Languedoc-Roussillon, country born from the Cathare culture. It is because many artists admire these sumptuous and large landscapes whose mountain collapses in the sea, which burns under the sun, that we could call it "the Vermeille coast". From Argeles to Cerberes, whole a panel of traditions, of Arts and delicacies: Collioure, is the capital of the anchovy, Banyuls with its name enjoy us by its out-of-date sweet wine with the sun. Capital of Roussillon: Perpignan, the red city exhibits a rich past. It is in the plains roussillonnaises that you can finds its wild aspect and a mountain environment. To the heart of the sunny Pyrenees area , Roussillon offers a show which everybody does not weary oneself: Canigou. Mountain crowns Catalan, associated with the orchards , flowers which gives a glare without equal to the country. And of the gorges spout out tumultuous water, bordered of soft thermal spas like Amelie the Baths. Between sea and vines, between blue and green, a whole pallet of colour when the autumn comes. Vines which give oldest sparkle world: the Blanquette of Limoux, mix freshness and the acidity has its aromatic power. Blue for sand and the water as a testimony of the various seaside resorts of them. From Port-Barcares, Leucate, Gruissan... which spread out over kilometres to be stopped by ponds of fishing and the oysters farms.
