The many beaches, the natural beauties of a varied landscape, the cultural monuments and the mild Mediterranean climate, with more than 2200 hours of sun a year, are the characteristics that allure most of the visitors. The charms of the sea, the sun and the summer leave no one unexcited. Pleasant for vacation all year round because of its mild climate, Malinska was named already at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century an ideal health resort. The richness of attractions consists of different cultural and entertainment programs, sports programs, cultural sights and the original folklore and folk costumes. A special pleasure in a coastal town, which has managed to preserve the fishing and maritime traditions, gives the tasting of local culinary specialties as an inevitable part of the offer of every good host. Although the first traces of human existence on the island date back to ancient times, Krk is best known for its tradition of Glagolitism and the first written document in the Croatian language – the Baška Stone Tablet – from the year 1100 A.D. Another important period in the history of the island is the reign of the Frankopans, the princes of Krk. The history of Malinska dates back to the 15th century when a mill was built by which the settlement was named. A special significance in the area of Malinska has the Frankopan church of St. Mary Magdalene located in the western part of Dubašnica, opposite Malinska. In the 15th century the Frankopans donated the church to the Glagolitic priests and they built the adjacent monastery. Inside the monastery there is a museum with sacral exhibits but also with items testimonies of popular life and traditions. In 1850 the press for oil production was built. An interesting history has also the parish church of St. Apolonar in Bogovići built in the 19th century on the location of an old chapel. The care for cultural heritage is materialised through different celebrations whose peak is the Night of Malinska – the day of the municipality and the holiday of St. Apolonar, the patron saint of the parish and the town, celebrated on July 23rd. Until the 2nd World War Malinska becomes a famous tourist resort known all over Europe. The settlement develops and the number of inhabitants increases. The peak of tourist development represents the construction of the hotel complex Haludovo in the 20th century.
