Chaoyang District. It is home to a good part of Beijing's diplomatic quarters, with many embassies located in the area. It occupies an area of 475 square kilometers, and has a population of 2,289,796 (2000 Census), making it the second most populous precinct of Beijing. The famous Sanlitun bar street also finds its home in Chaoyang district, as well as Beijing's evolving CBD and the Olympic Park that is being built for the 2008 Summer Olympics.
Chaoyang precinct is expansive in size, stretching as far west as Chaoyangmen on the eastern 2nd Ring Road, and extending nearly as far east as the Ximazhuang toll station on the Jingtong Expressway. Within the urban area of Beijing, it is the largest precinct. (Haidian comes in at a close second.) It also stretches north towards the airport area. In fact, it also hosts Beijing Capital International Airport, an exclave within Shunyi District/Precinct.
Beijing is a metropolis in northern China and the capital of the People's Republic of China. It is one of the four municipalities of the PRC, which are equivalent to provinces in China's administrative structure. Beijing is one of the Four Great Ancient Capitals of China. The municipality of Beijing borders Hebei Province to the north, west, south, and for a small section in the east, and Tianjin Municipality to the southeast.
Beijing is China's second largest city, after Shanghai. Beijing is a major transportation hub, with dozens of railways, roads and motorways passing through the city. It is also the focal point of many international flights to China. Beijing is recognised as the political, educational, and cultural center of the People's Republic of China, while Shanghai and Hong Kong predominate in economic fields. The city hosted the 2008 Olympic Games.
