Just a short walk down the beach along the new promenade you can find the Atlantico shopping centre. This large air – conditioned centre has designer cloth shops, supermarket and restaurants, amusement arcade and bowling alleys. A short walk from the centre and you are back on the beach. Here you will find some beautiful new bathing areas. The beaches have been made around lagoons created by digging into the rock behind the shoreline and then importing tons of new sand in. You can see from the picture to the right, the horse shoe bay at the top with the new lagoons towards the bottom of the picture. You can just make out the bar El Chiringuito at the end of the pier. Perfect to escape from the heat of the day.
There are cafe bars and refreshments here and also an oceanarium, all a short walk from the beach. You will also find many other activities around the beach area if you are not one to lie in the sun. Children can take sand castle building lessons or go on camel rides or even try one of the crazy golf courses along the promenade. For those feeling more energetic there are tennis courts, basket ball courts and archery as well as a 5 a side football pitch. There is a new Spa next to the beach area that has a whole host of beauty treatments as well as an adult and children’s swimming pool, gym, tennis and squash courts.
Costa Caleta is the perfect resort for young families and couples. The town is wrapped around a superb sweeping sandy beach which is set around a bay shaped like a horse shoe that slopes gently to the sea making it one of the safest on the island for children. The beach is protected by breakwaters to make it safe for young and old to swim or dive. The beach has been created from imported sand from the Sahara, and with calm crystal clear water, you can see the fish swimming in the shallows as the tide comes in. Along the edge of the beach a pretty palm tree lined promenade takes you down to the harbour area where you can indulge in all kinds of water sports. There is everything here from scuba diving to deep sea fishing.
