Amarilla Golf

Drainage and the presence of artificial ponds within the fairly dry setting of Tenerife's southern half are probably the factors that account for the relative wealth of birds to be found around these two golf courses. They are within sight distance of one another and can easily be reached on the fairway by taking the exit San Miguel, continuing towards Los Abrigos and following their signs. Look out for any security guards and keep clear of them, especially on the slightly more modern Golf del Sur, less so on Amarilla, as they will almost inevitably throw you off the course.

The large size of the course means there is a constant flow of players to the tee of the 1st hole. You never have to wait to play. The Amarilla Golf & Country Club is one of the biggest and most interesting projects of its kind in the world.

It combines a residential estate with an international-standard golf course and all of this is set in magnificent natural surroundings, with views of the ocean. The course, with a par of 72, is 6,077 metres long and was designed by Donald Steel, of Cotton Pennink Steel & Partners of London to combine with and complement the layout of the terrain with that of the residential estate.

It provides a worthy challenge for the championship-level golfer while at the same time offering an attractive and pleasant round for those of more modest abilities. As one might expect in an island of such beautiful contrasts, the 18 holes run over a wide variety of terrain.

Located on the southern coast of Tenerife and with 13 holes located along the sea (holes 6-11 are inland), Amarilla Golf and Country Club has incredible ocean and mountain views. The golf course, which is surrounded by a residential development, provides a challenge for all levels of player. On the 5th hole, it is necessary to cross the sea in order to reach the green. The final three holes are characterised by their large volcanic sand bunkers, and the presence of the neighbouring golf course, Golf del Sur.
