Villa Vienna is an old traditional Bulgarian country house completley renovated to modern standards,with new kitchen and bathroom and bedrooms. There are three twin/double rooms and a kitchen and dining area to the rear of the house looking out over the garden and surrounding area. The house is in a very quiet location in a beatiful valley which leads to Shipkovo hot water mineral baths 7km away,and lies in the heart of the Central Balkan National Park. Transfers from Sofia can be easily arranged as well as car hire,local translators and guides if required. Catering can also be arranged if you choose. You will discover the real Bulgaria here and experience the hospitality of the local people.
The town of Troyan (population 26 541) is located at a distance of 60 km to the east of Teteven, at a distance of 180 km. to the north east of Sofia and at a distance of 70 km. south of Pleven. Settled on the splendid terraces along the river Beli Osum, Troyan is a town with opulent history. The ancient Roman Road of Via Trajana linking the Danube River with the Aegean Sea crossed the Balkan range and gave its name to the settlement which grew up much later.
The cultural celebrations in May and in the autumn are traditional for the town. Their programmes include the achievements of the local artists and artists of our national culture participate in them. During the autumn holidays there is a Celebration of the plum and the plum brandy with a lot of samplings and competitions for the participants.
The historical Troyan monastery is located at distance of 10 km. southeast of the town. The Museum of Natural Science which is settled at 12 km. to the east from the town and at 2 km. south to the Troyan Monastery. The National fair – exhibitions of people’s art crafts is in the village of Oreshak to 7 km. east of the town. Articles of the modern masters of arts not only from Troyan and from the region, but from all the country. The village of Shipkovo is at 18 km. To the west, on the road for Teteven. There is a balneotherapy resort with mineral swimming pools.
In the region of Troyan is situated the National park Central Balkan, and 30 km to the northwest is the Sopot Dam lake.
The Central Balkan National Park is among the world temples of the wild nature. With its beautiful nature, magnificent landscapes, swift – flowing rivers, huge precipices, numerous waterfalls and hundred – years forests, this part of the mountain is attractive place for every one who just a little know this magic. The local people have preserved the crafts. The hospitality of the local people, the favourable climate and the unique nature, the numerous historical, natural and cultural landmarks give excellent opportunities for recreation and entertainment.
Troyan is the town of handicrafts in the enchanting mountain. Perched on the splendid natural terraces along the river of Beli Osum, the town is a centre of the unsurpassed Troyan-style pottery. The warmth of the clay abounds in the gay colours of the Bulgarian land, and gives expression to the cheerful character of its people.
Take home some Troyan pottery, and you will take away a symbol of little Bulgaria – its blue southern sky, the motley woolen rugs, the magnificent figure of the mountain, the clear spring-time brooks, and the generous good-heartiness of its people.
