Coolum Beach

Coolum Beach is a beachside town on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia and is also the beach around which the town is based. Coolum is approximately 90 minutes (135 km) north of Brisbane and about 15 km south of Noosa. The resort town is renowned for its quality world-class golf courses and accommodation and is home to a lively cafe and restaurant scene.The name is derived from the local Aboriginal word gulum or kulum, meaning "blunt" or "headless", referring to the shape of Mount Coolum, which has no peak. Mount Coolum dominates the landscape, and can be seen from most of Coolum. A half hour bush walk winds its way up Mount Coolum.

Coolum is the largest beach side resort on Queensland's southern Sunshine Coast. The area is fast growing with a population of 18 000. Although visitors will always be welcome to this beautiful resort, the population may be capped to preserve the resources and standard of the living in the area.

Coolum Beach is a popular day trip and holiday destination. The town is focused around the beach which is patrolled by life savers and offers swimming and surfing. Parks, a boardwalk, esplanade shops, and the surf life saver club surround the beach. Over the last five years Coolum Beach has seen heavy development, with new buildings for retail business and holiday apartments.

Coolum is at the beginning of a 17km long beach running through to Sunshine Beach. Coolum SLSC patrols the beach 365 days of the year.
